Stars Win Rivalry Matchup

River Forest, IL -The Dominican University women's soccer team scored one apiece in each half on their way to a 2-0 victory over Concordia University Chicago on Sunday afternoon.

The Stars got possession of the ball off of a Cougars goal kick before Hannah Anderson and Sophia Bartridge were able to find Ashleigh Huerta who shot it in the back of the net in the 14th minute to give Dominican an early 1-0 lead. The Stars would keep the pressure on the Cougars as they had seven shots in the half but weren't able to connect ending the half up 1-0.

Dominican was able to record its second goal of the match in the 75th minute after a shot by Bartridge was deflected off the goalkeeper. Regan Coxon was then able to get the rebound and find the back of the net to extend that Stars lead 2-0.

"We weren't at our best today but we managed to come out with a win," said Head Coach Carlos Carrillo.

Offensively, the Stars had seven corner kick opportunities in the match but weren't able to connect. Dominican also had 17 shots with 13 of them being on frame. Defensively, the Stars only allowed four shots in the match with all of them being on goal. They also didn't allow the Cougars to have a corner kick opportunity.

"We need to continue to try and have consistent good starts to our matches," continued Coach Carrillo. "We'll look to continue to improve and prepare for our next match."

Dominican will return to action on March 31st when it travels to Concordia University Wisconsin with a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
