WSOC Preview: Ending on a High Note

3/9/2021 4:00:00 PM

River Forest, IL- As the Dominican University women's soccer team prepares for the start of their season under Head Coach Carlos Carrillo, the team and the coaches are excited to have the opportunity to get back on the pitch with hopes to compete for another conference title.

With COVID-19 causing the Stars to have a condensed season this year they had the opportunity to practice as a team during the fall to prepare for their shortened season this spring. "We are all very grateful for the opportunity again to get out and practice. Practices have been fun, energetic, and very productive," said Coach Carrillo.

Given that the Stars won 17 games before falling in the NACC Championship game a season ago, the goal is to push for another conference championship but to also remain healthy and safe in the process. "First, we hope to be able to play as many games as possible. After that, our team mentality is to compete in every match with the hopes of having an opportunity to compete for another conference title," continued Coach Carrillo.

Going into the season, the Stars have a great group of seniors that have put in the work and are ready to lead the team one last time. "I'd like to highlight our seniors Sammy Hatfield, Maggie McClure, Abbey Brown, Leah Kostos, and Stephanie Martinez, who upon arriving in this program in 2017 have made tremendous contributions to our success," stated Coach Carrillo. "They have been the driving force in every aspect of the program. They have helped shape our culture, leadership, and family-oriented culture. We look forward to one more journey with them this season with the hopes of sending them off, as the champions they are."

The Stars start their 2021 campaign when they travel down Division Street to take on Concordia University Chicago Wednesday, March 10th at noon. Dominican returns home on Sunday, March 14th for its home opener at 1:00 p.m. versus the Benedictine University Eagles.
