Stars Drop Pair to Sabres

Fond du Lac, WI – The Dominican University softball team played a cross-divisional doubleheader against Marian University on Thursday, dropping a close game one 3-1 before failing 10-0 in game two.

The Sabres got on the board first with an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning before a Theresa Wilsterman RBI single to left plated Makayla Barnes to knot the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth.

Marian responded right away with a run in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead before tacking on an insurance run in the sixth on a wild pitch.

Megan Hufnagle recorded two hits from the leadoff spot as she went 2-for-3 in game one.

"On the mound, Ally kept us in the game but we did not give her enough run support," said Head Coach Cristina Lukas. "We need to cut down on walks and at times errors. We are giving too many free bases away."

The Sabres jumped on the Stars early in game two with three runs in the bottom of the first followed by five more in the second. Marian added a pair in the third as they run-ruled Dominican 10-0 in game two.

Malia Gilles and Lavin Catrambone each went 1-for-2 in the second game for Dominican.

"We struggled with our bats today coming off a strong hitting performance last weekend," continued Coach Lukas. "We struggled to put runs on the board against solid Marian pitching. We still have some things to improve on and the team is working hard every day. It'll be exciting to see how it all comes together over the next month."

The Stars have a break before their next doubleheader on Wednesday, April 7th versus Mount Mary University in Rosemont at 5:00 p.m.
