Stars Drop Rematch Against Benedictine

Lisle, IL – The Dominican University softball team traveled to Benedictine University to take on the Eagles in a doubleheader match up falling in game one 17-2 before dropping game two 10-1.
 
Game One:
 
The Eagles started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with three runs giving them an early 3-0 lead. The Stars would answer back in the top of the second as Malia Gilles doubled to left field. A fly out to right-field allowed Gilles to advance to third. Kellie Fabbri then hit a single bringing Gilles across home plate making it 3-1 before Fabbri stole second. A double by Julia Orozco allowed Fabbri to score cutting the Eagles lead to 3-2.
 
Benedictine exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the second inning to extend their lead to 14-2. The Stars weren't able to connect the rest of the game as the Eagles added two more runs in the bottom of the third before one more run in the bottom of the fourth to seal the 17-2 win.
 
Game Two:
 
The Eagles kept their momentum going into game two as they were able to score three runs in the bottom of the second inning to give them an early 3-0 lead. Benedictine would bring seven more runners around the bases in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 10-0.
 
In the top of the fifth inning, Megan Hufnagle singled to center field. Kennedy Marvin then reached first by a fielder's choice allowing Hufnagle to advance to second. Gilles would step up next, hitting a single to left field bringing Hufnagle across home plate making it 10-1.
 
In-game two, Hufnagle led the Stars with three hits on three at-bats while also scoring a run.
 
The Stars will return to action Friday, April 16th when they host Concordia University Chicago in a doubleheader matchup with a start time of 5:00 p.m.
