Dominican Dons NACC Crown for Fourth Straight Year

River Forest, IL – The Dominican University men's soccer team preseason goal came to fruition with a 3-0 victory over Aurora University to win the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) South Division title.

In a replay of the match from a week ago that ended in a 1-1 tie, the two teams played a scoreless first 45 minutes with nearly identical shot totals heading to the break.

Vicente Castro got the Stars on the board in the 57th minute on an unassisted goal for his 10th tally of the season.

Almost 20 minutes later, Daniel Dominguez and Juan Guzman set up Giacomo Parrino for a goal in the 77th minute to add some breathing room at 2-0.

Dominican kept the pedal to the metal in search of a full 90-minutes however as Castro added another unassisted goal with two minutes to go in the contest to cap off the 3-0 win.

"That's the team we can be," said Head coach Erick Baumann. "They came to compete and executed our game plan perfectly."

The match stats were nearly identical across the board as each team had 11 shots with both goalkeepers making three saves while the Spartans committed three more fouls than the Stars.

"In all of my time coaching these were probably two of the most difficult championships to win," continued Coach Baumann. The pandemic obviously creates its own obstacles but what goes on behind the scenes on a day-to-day basis is what isn't seen by everyone. Our first goal was to stay healthy and I'm so thankful that happened throughout the spring."

"I can't thank my players enough for their commitment and willingness to do all this during these difficult times. We were driven to be winners and champions when all was said and done. Without their adaptability, resilience, and leadership this doesn't happen."

This is Dominican's fourth straight NACC tournament title and 12th in the 15-year existence of the conference.

"I also can't thank my coaching staff enough for what they give to this program," concluded Coach Baumann. "Coach Ben Boyd is the reason we can do what we do. He's the one that keeps it all together."
