Stars Fall To Scarlett Hawks To Close Season

Chicago, IL - The Dominican University baseball team took on the Scarlett Hawks of Illinois Tech in hopes of clinching a playoff berth on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, the Stars could piece together enough offense as IIT completed the sweep handling game one 12-2 before taking game two 7-1.

Game One Recap:
Both teams would remain scoreless through the first three innings. The Scarletts Hawks would draw first blood in the fourth as four runs came across to give them a 4-0 lead.

Grayson Downing continued his hot streak into Sunday as his RBI groundout plated Keegan Brandt to get the Stars on the board 4-1. IIT would tack on three more runs in the make it 7-1.

A Tyler Trojan homerun in the sixth would give the Stars life and cut the deficit to 7-2. IIT would answer back in the bottom of the sixth to tack on five more run to end the game after seven innings.

Game Two Recap:
After Illinois Tech took an early 2-0 lead after the first four innings, the Scarlett Hawks would explode for three homeruns between the fifth and sixth inning to take control 5-0. The seventh inning saw the Stars get on the board after Ryan Simak's RBI single to plate Nick Roeper to make it a 5-1 deficit.

An IIT home run in the seventh saw the lead grow to 7-1 as the Stars could not find an answer offensively for the rest of the game and drop game two 7-1.

The sweep would knock the Stars out of postseason contention and end the year with a 10-27 overall record.
