River Forest, Ill. - The Dominican University men's soccer team defeated Edgewood College 13-1 on Saturday.
The highlight of the game came in the first few seconds as senior
Adam Stearns got the start. Both teams agreed to kick the ball out of bounds and allow Stearns to substitute out following the opening kickoff. Stearns has been injured this season and got one last opportunity to be recognized for his devotion to the program.
The Stars had a season high in scoring and it got started right away. Sophomore
John Cronnolly notched a hat trick in the first five minutes of play to give Dominican a 3-0 lead. Fifth-year
Jesus Lopez then capped off the first half with a fourth goal off of an assist from senior
Nick Kowalczyk.
Dominican came out ready to add to their lead in the second half. Nine goals were scored by the Stars in the second half by different players including an Edgewood own-goal. The Stars then allowed a goal with 10 seconds remaining on a penalty kick, otherwise would have kept a clean sheet.
The Stars record improves to 9-3-3 and 6-3-2 in the NACC. Their regular season concludes on Wedneday when they play Concordia-Chicago on the road at 2:00 p.m.
