RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's second-ranked and top-seeded men's volleyball program defeated second-seeded Benedictine University in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament Championship on Saturday evening.
In front of a raucous crowd inside the Igini Sports Forum, DU completed the 'double', securing both the 2022 NACC Regular Season and Postseason Championship. Dominican has now won a program-record 20-straight matches and secures its third NACC Tournament title and fifth NACC Men's Volleyball Championship. This is also the first time that Dominican has won the Regular Season and Postseason Titles outright, tying with Benedictine for the Regular Season Title in 2018.
DU stormed out of the gates with identical 25-21 set wins in sets one and two before dropping a close third set, 25-22. A resilient DU side finished off the match in four with a 25-17 win to secure the title.
George Kougan led the offensive effort with 17 kills at a .359 clip while
Trey Cowan added 15 kills in support.
Jack McGuire dished out 39 assists and added three service aces, one solo block, three block assists and 12 digs. As a team, DU had 15.0 total blocks led by
Mat Molloy's nine blocks.
Danny Pacini had nine digs to anchor the backline.
Jacob Bush and Molloy combined nine kills in the middle.
DU awaits its NCAA Tournament matchup, of which the selection show will be on Monday, April 11 at 9 a.m. CT on ncaa.com.
