River Forest, Ill. – We have made it!! Semester one of the year has just finished but our men's and women's basketball are not going anywhere to start this winter break.
Men's Basketball had two games this past week and was looking to get off their losing skid. The first game was on the road at Benedictine University on Wednesday night. Junior Adrian Pelszynski had his breakout game in a Stars uniform scoring 15 points on 5 three-pointers in the 88-66 loss to the Eagles. DU men's basketball returned to the Igini Sports Forum to host the Raiders of MSOE. The contest was highly competitive, which has been the standard for the men's team in the Igini. Senior Terrell Taylor was leading scorer for the Stars with 14 on 6-10 shooting from the floor, but DU could not get over the hump and fell 72-63. Dominican will get right back to the grind with two games this week, both being on the road. The first is at Adrian College in Michigan, on December 16
th. Tip-off will be at 4 pm CT between the Stars and the Bulldogs. The second will be at Lawrence University on December 21
st, tip-off is set for 2:00 pm.
Women's Basketball also had two games over this past week. The first was a road test at Monmouth College on Thursday afternoon. Graduate Student Melissa Gomez was the leading scorer for the Stars with 18 points in the 64-57 loss to the Scots. In the second game of the week for DU women's basketball, they had an offensive explosion being led by Freshman Elizabeth McCabe who was phenomenal for the Stars against the Sabercats. The Freshman had 11 points, 7 assists, and 5 steals in the best game of her young collegiate career. Dominican only has one game this upcoming week and it is in the Igini Sports Forum Tuesday, December 17
th at 3:30 pm. The Beavers of Blackburn College come to the Igini for a winter break showdown.
Star of the Week Athletes for the week of December 8th to December 15th:
Graduate Student Melissa Gomez of the Women's Basketball team was recognized as the Women's Stars of the Week. Gomez put up 18 points and 4 steals in the first game of the week for DU. In the second Gomez had 15 points and 3 steals. This averages out to 16.5 points per game this past week.
Senior Quante May of the Men's Basketball team was recognized as the Men's Star of the Week. May had 6 points, a steal, and 4 rebounds in the first game of the week. In the second game of the week, May collected 11 points, a steal, and 3 rebounds.
