Stars Make it Two in a Row Inside the Igini

River Forest, Ill. – The Dominican University women's basketball team hosted Blackburn College in their last game before Christmas.

Results:
Dominican: 67
Blackburn: 48

How it Happened:
-The first quarter was a quarter of runs. Dominican got the first punch in the game, getting the lead to 11-4 after graduate student Melissa Gomez collected 5 early points.   
-It was then Blackburn's turn, and they got the score to 12-12 at the end of the first.     
-The Stars shot 25% in the first quarter.
-Sophomore Aya Deiri and Freshman Jayla Harris each made two buckets in the second quarter. This adds up to 9 of the 13 DU points in the quarter.  
-The Stars went into the half facing a 26-25 deficit.
-The DU offense woke up in the third quarter, scoring 28 points on 52% shooting.
-The Stars got scoring help from multiple players. Gomez collected 8 of her 24 points in the third. Freshman Elizabeth McCabe and Sophomore Kaitlyn Milison each had 5 points in the quarter.
-Dominican started the 4th quarter with a 53-41 lead, looking to win their second straight game.     
-Gomez pushed DU to the finish line with 6 more points in the quarter.
-The Stars shot 35% from the floor to close out the game.

Shining Stars:
-Graduate Student Melissa Gomez had a breakout game, collecting 24 points, 11 rebounds and 6 steals. Today was Gomez's first double-double in a Stars uniform.
-Sophomore Aya Deiri played 26 minutes off the bench and showed out. Scoring 9 points, grabbing 3 boards, 2 assists, and a steal.
-Freshman Elizabeth McCabe adding 9 more points to her name in her first collegiate start. McCabe also collected 4 assists and 4 rebounds.
-Sophomore Kaitlyn Milison had 7 points and 7 rebounds before exiting the game with an injury.

What's Next:
The Dominican University women's basketball team will be off until New Year's Eve when the Stars travel to Judson University. Tip-off between DU and Judson will be at 1:00 pm.
