River Forest, Ill. - Dominican University athletics hosted the first National Ability Basketball League (NABL) event of 2024 on Saturday.
The NABL is a basketball league organized by its founder, CEO, and DU men's basketball alum Nick LaVere. The league features special needs athletes who participate in basketball games. This organization gives opportunities for these athletes to compete, exercise, and show off their skills on the court.
Dominican's men's basketball team hosted and ran the event that had a terrific turnout. DU women's basketball and softball also contributed by attending the event and interacting with the athletes before, during, and after the game.
"Us as an organization couldn't have been more happier with how the event went," LaVere said. "Dominican University did an incredible job organizing the players introductions, the players getting announced every time someone scored, and how amazing each student athlete treated the Special Needs athletes. The overall experience for not only the athletes but for everyone that came out to support this event is an experience will never forget"!
DU athletics was thrilled to host this event and is looking forward to partnering with the NABL again in the future.
