Davenport, Fla. - The Dominican University softball team started off their season in Florida for their spring break trip.
The Stars took on Ursinus College for game one, and Thomas College for game two.
Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 7
Ursinus: 5
How it Happened:
-Dominican gave up 2 runs on two hits in the top of the first inning.
-DU did not hesitate to get on the board in the bottom of the first inning, with Sophomore
Ryley Davis hitting an RBI single to left field.
-Ursinus College scored a run on 2 hits in the top of the third inning.
-The Stars has have a big inning in the bottom half of the third.
-Starting off with Junior
Donatela Sommesi reaching on an error bringing in two runs. Davis then delivers her second RBI single to left. Dominican was not done with Junior Lily Santoyo reaching on a fielding error and having a run score on the play.
-DU took a 6-3 lead into the fourth inning.
-Ursinus cut back into the lead in the top of the fourth scoring 2 runs on 3 hits.
-Dominican added an insurance run in the bottom half of the sixth inning on Senior Malia Giles grounding out to shortstop.
Shining Stars:
-Sophomore
Ryley Davis led the Stars going 3 for 3 with 2 RBI's
-Freshman
Kailee Diaz Randall went 1 for 2 with a run scored.
-Senior
Geneva Pollman went 1 for 4 with a run scored.
-Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane picked up her first win of the season pitching 5 and a third innings with 4 strikeouts.
-Junior Emma Wooddhouse came in for the save with pitching a inning and two thirds.

How it Happened:
-The Stars continued their momentum from game one into the first inning scoring 3 runs in the top half of the first.
-The inning started off with Junior
Emma Woodhouse hitting an RBI single. Following Sophomore
Ryley Davis hit a sacrifice fly scoring 3 runs on an error by the Thomas defense.
-Dominican would added a run in the top of the seventh inning with Woodhouse hitting her second RBI single of the game.
-DU starting pitcher Woodhouse pitched a complete game holding the Thomas offense to just two hits.
Shining Stars:
-Junior
Emma Woodhouse led the team on both sides of the field. Starting off defensively pitching 7 innings with 5 strikeouts. Offensively Woodhouse went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's and a run scored.
-Junior
Donatela Sommesi went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored.

What's Next:
The Dominican University softball team will continue their action in Florida March 3rd with another double header. Game one DU will play Saint Vincent College at 10:15 a.m. Game two they will play Muskingum University starting at 2:45 p.m.
