Stars Fall in First Round of NCAA Tournament

Dubuque, IA – The Dominican University men's volleyball team traveled to Loras College for the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

How it Happened:
-Dominican and Cal Lutheran playing for the second time this season. The first was at DU on January 27th, and CLU won 3-2.
-The Stars were hot off of the bat, winning the first set 25-21. DU had 8 kills on 20 attempts, but did most of their damage off of the 9 Cal Lutheran errors.  
-DU was getting help from a bunch of players in this first set. Junior Ryan Barnett had back-to-back service aces. Senior Jarod Hesse had 3 kills, and Freshman Ty Geschke had 2 kills.   
-The Kingsman bounced back and won set 25-18. The Stars had 10 kills in the set.  
-The third set Dominican continued to struggle losing the set 25-17. DU had 6 kills in the set, and 6 errors in the set.  
-Dominican fell to a 2-1 set deficit, and needing to win the fourth set to extend the match.  
-Junior Casey Goss got the Stars to a 4-2 lead, with 2 kills early.
-Cal Lutheran went on a 4-point run to grab a 12-8 lead.
-The Stars tried making a run late in the fourth set getting kills from Geschke, and Goss.
-Dominican fell 25-20, and had 12 kills in the set.


Shining Stars:
-Senior Jarod Hesse had 9 kills in the match, collected a service ace, and a dig.
-Freshman Ty Geschke was tied with Hesse for kills with 9 of them. Geschke also, collected a block.  
-Junior Casey Goss had 7 kills, 2 services aces, and 3 blocks.  
-Junio Owen Morrow had 26 assists and 6 digs. Morrow also collected 3 kills.   
-Junio Jason Kougan had 3 blocks, 3 kills, and a dig.  
-Junior Ryan Barnett was tied with team high 2 service aces.
 
Leading the Way:
Kills: Geschke, and Hesse (19)
Aces: Barnett, and Goss (2)
Blocks: Goss, and Kougan (3)
Assists: Morrow (26)
Digs: Marrs (9)
 
What's Next:
The Dominican University men's volleyball team season has come to an end. The Stars finished at 19-8, with NACC Championship. DU was 10-3 inside the Igini Sports Forum.
