Cleveland, Ohio. – The Dominican University softball team played Case Western Reserve University with a chance to go to the regional Final, after winning their first NCAA tournament game.
Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 7
Case Western Reserve: 8
How it Happened:
-The Spartans were rolling in the first inning scoring 6 runs on 4 hits, and taking advantage of a DU error in the field.
-The score remained 6-0 in favor of CWRU until the Stars had their big inning of the game, and they put up 7 runs on 7 hits while taking advantage of two Case Western errors.
-The scoring got going with Junior
Gillian Czubernat hitting a single up the middle that brought home two runners. Junior
Hanna Voegtle followed it up with a bunt single to the third baseman that scored a run on an error. Senior
Kennedy Marvin continued the train with an RBI single up the middle that brought up Czubernat. Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane made it 6 straight hits in the inning with a single up the middle that brought home Voegtle on a throwing error. Freshman
Kailee Diaz Randall brought home the sixth run of the inning on an RBI groundout to the first baseman. The final run of the inning was scored on a wild pitch that resulted in Faber-Cournane crossing home.
-It was then the Spartans time to respond and they did by hitting a two-run homerun in the top of the 6
th inning that gave them the 8-7 lead.
-In the bottom of the 7
th inning the Stars threatened getting two runners on base, but unable to get the tying or winning run across.
Shining Stars:
-Junior
Gillian Czubernat made her stamp on this game by leading the Stars at the plate. Going 3 for 3 with a walk, 2 RBI's and a run scored.
-Senior
Kennedy Marvin went 1 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored.
-Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane went 1 for 2 with 2 walks an RBI and a run scored.
-Junior
Lili Santoyo went 1 for 2 with 2 walks, and a run scored.
-Senior
Geneva Pollman went 1 for 3 with a walk and a run scored.

Hanna Voegtle went 1 for 4 with a run scored.

What's Next:
With this lose the Dominican University softball team season has come to an end. The Stars season has been one to remember though with multiple first in program history happening. Like winning the NACC regular season championship, winning the NACC conference tournament, winning a game in the national tournament, being ranked in the top 25 as high as 18, being ranked regionally. DU went 39-8 overall, 20-4 in conference and 12-0 on their home turf.
