Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stars Fall in Chicago

Chicago, Ill. – Dominican University Women's Basketball looked to get back in the win column on the road against Illinois Tech.

   Results:
   Dominican: 55
   Illinois Tech: 69

   How it Happened:
   -DU would start the scoring after a layup from Junior Kamila Gajkowska.
   -Midway through the 1st quarter, Sophomore Lia Saunders would knock down Dominican's first three of the night to tie the game at 9.   
   -Freshman Danielle Washington would give the Stars a 20-19 lead at the end of the 1st.
   -DU would start the 2nd slow, but four quick points from Gajkowska would find the Stars down 26-30.
   -A three from Junior Lacey Schaffter and a lay-up from Freshman Elizabeth McCabe cut the Illinois Tech lead to 33-35 at half-time.
   -Saunders would rattle off a quick four points to keep DU in striking distance in the 3rd quarter.
   -Freshman Chenoa Moss got a lay-up to go in the final minute of the 3rd. Illinois Tech would have a 44-50 lead heading into the final frame.
   -Gajkowska and Graduate Student Melissa Gomez would knock down a pair of quick jumpers, but Illinois Tech would begin to pull away from DU.
   -The Stars would fall by a final of 55-69.
   -Dominican finished shooting 31.9% from the field and 12.5% from behind the arc.
   -Bench scoring continues to be a bright spot for DU, as the Stars' bench outscored Illinois Tech's 19-12.

   Shining Stars:
   -Sophomore Lia Saunders paced the Stars with 11 points while adding 7 rebounds and a steal.
   -Graduate Student Melissa Gomez finished with 10 points and 4 rebounds.
   -Junior Kamila Gajkowska collected 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals.
   -Sophomore Kaitlyn Milison was DU's leading scorer off the bench, tallying 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists.

   What's Next:
   Dominican University Women's Basketball moves to 5-11 on the season and is 1-6 in conference. The Stars will be on the road again on Saturday, January 25th, where they take on Marian University.
