River Forest, Ill. – Dominican University athletics had one of their best weeks in the new year this past week, and we are looking to keep that momentum rolling into this upcoming week.
The Dominican University men's basketball team played two games this past week. One of the games on the road and the other in the Igini Sports Forum. The first game of the week was wrapping up a three-game homestand against Illinois Tech. The Stars won 81-58 behind four players in double figures. Fifth-Year Camron Scott, Senior Terrell Taylor, Junior Dominic Crapia, and Graduate Student Robbie Taylor. Senior Daniel Nennig chipped in with a near triple-double with the stat line of 7 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. In game two of the week, DU was looking to start a win streak and they did just that! Beating Marian on the road in a comeback victory, to the score of 80-74. The Stars were once again led by Camron Scott who did not miss a shot from the floor in the game and put up 25 points. DUMBB will take their three-game NACC win streak right down Division Street to face off against conference rivals Concordia Chicago for the first game of the week. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. on January 29
th. The second game of the week will be a blackout in the Igini Sports Forum as St. Norbert College comes to town. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. on February 1
st.
The Dominican University women's basketball team played two road games this past week. The first being in Chicago at Illinois Tech where the Stars fell 69-55. Sophomore Lia Saunders was leading scorer for DU with 11 points and she grabbed 7 rebounds. In the second game of the week Dominican traveled to Marian University to try and get revenge for the loss by Marian back on December 4
th. The Stars were unable to get that revenge and lost to the score of 76-33. Freshman Chenoa Moss led the team with 10 points. DUWBB will have two games this upcoming week and both will be in the Igini Sports Forum. The Stars will start a three-game homestand against conference rivals Concordia University of Chicago on Wednesday night. Tip-off between the Stars and the Cougars is set for 7:00 p.m. Game two of the week is the second game of the double-header in the Igini with St. Norbert College coming to town to play on the women's side of things also. Stars and Knights will tip off at 3:15 p.m.
Dominican University men's volleyball returned to the Igini Sports Forum for their only game this past week. The Stars hosted North Park University and won in a sweep. DU was led by Senior Casey Goss who collected 13 kills. Senior Tanner Dahman was not far behind Goss collecting 6 kills but led the team in service aces with 3. DUMVB only has one game this upcoming week and it is against reigning NCAA Champion California Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30
th. Dominican and Cal Lutheran already played once this season a part of the Slug Fest in Santa Cruz, California.
Dominican University Track & Field is fully underway with the completion of their third event this past week. The Stars were a part of the Aurora Grand Prix and were led by Senior Avery Brown on the field side of things. Brown placed 11
th out of 31 participants in the Shot Put event, throwing 10.43 meters. On the Track side of things, Senior Emma Woodhouse ran in multiple events but her best was the 200-Meter-Dash where she finished with a time of 30.20. On the men's side, Senior Oscar Meza-Quintero ran in the 400-Meter-Dash and finished with a time of 1:01.13. Junior Adrian Ocana participated in the 800-Meter-Dash and finished with a time of 2:12.59. DU T&F will participate in the Lake Michigan Open next weekend in Kenosha, Wis.
Star of the Week Athletes for the week of January 13th to January 19th:
Senior Avery Brown of the Women's Track & Field team was recognized as the Women's Star of the Week. Brown placed 11
th in the Shot Put event and threw for 10.43 meters.
Fifth-Year Student Camron Scott of the Men's Basketball team was recognized as the Men's Star of the Week. Scott scored a total of 40 points and 18 rebounds this past week.
