Winter Haven, Fla. – The Dominican University softball team opened up their 2025 season in Florida. The Stars played a doubleheader on day 1. The first game was against Lebanon Valley College followed with a game against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Game 1 Results:
Lebanon Valley: 1
Dominican: 0
How it Happened:
-The Dutchmen got things going by scoring a run on two hits in the top of the first inning.
-Dominican threatened in the bottom of the third inning with a lead-off triple to right field by Junior
Paytin Salfi but got thrown out stealing home to end the inning, and keeping the score 1-0 in favor of LVC.
-The Stars continued to put pressure on the Lebanon Valley but were unable to score a run in the bottom of the 6
th with runners on first and second with two outs.
-DU once again got two runners on with two outs but could not get that clutch hit to tie the game up.
Shining Stars:
-Senior
Gillian Czubernat led the Stars offensively going 2-3 with two singles to left field.
-Senior
Emma Woodhouse was stellar in the circle throwing all 7 innings and collecting 10 strikeouts.
-Junior
Paytin Salfi went 1-3 with a three-bagger to right field.

Rensselaer Polytechnic: 6
Dominican: 0
How it Happened:
-RPI got the scoring underway in the bottom of the first inning by scoring a run on two hits.
-The Engineers or RPI broke the game open with a 4-run inning on 3 hits, making the score 5-0 in favor of Rensselaer Polytechnic.
-RPI added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning with one hit.
-The Stars did not get a runner past second base offensively.
Shining Stars:
-Senior Liliana Santoyo went 2-3
-Freshman
Sara Cornell had a terrific first career collegiate game going 2-3.

What's Next:
The Dominican University softball will be back in action tomorrow afternoon with two games. The first game will be at 2:45 p.m. against Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. The second game of the day will be against Wentworth Institute of Technology.
