Auburndale, Fla. – The Dominican University baseball team played their final game of their spring break trip this morning against the Briton of Albion College.
Results:
Dominican: 7
Albion: 3
How it Happened:
-Both teams were held scoreless for the first two innings until Albion found themselves on the board in the top of the 3
rd inning by scoring 2 runs on 2 hits.
-Dominican tied the ball game up in the bottom of the fourth inning. The first run came off the bat of Junior
Matthew Earley hitting an RBI single to left center field, and Junior
Niko Krecu came around to score. Senior
Gavin Zappe brought in the tying run with a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing home Junior
Tyler Johnson.
-The Stars took the lead the very next inning with a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Junior
Zach Helein.
-The Britons responded right away scoring a run on two hits.
-DU scored three straight innings of scoring, in the bottom of the sixth inning. The first run of the inning came off the bat of Graduate Student
Grayson Downing hitting an RBI single to left field bringing Zappe around to home. Krecu drew a two-out bases loaded walk scoring Senior
Braiden Galvin.
-Dominican got some insurance runs in the bottom of the 8
th inning with Earley hitting a two-RBI single to center field, with G. Downing and Galvin both scoring. This gave the Stars a 7-3 lead.
-Albion recorded two hits in the top of the 9
th but never caused a real threat to come back in the game.
Shining Stars:
-Junior
Matthew Earley found his swing going 2-5 with 3 RBIs in the game.
-Graduate Student
Grayson Downing has continued to be a huge part of the DU offense going 2-4 with a walk, RBI, and a run scored.
-Junior
Niko Krecu went 1 for 3 with 2 walks, an RBI, and a run scored.
-Junior
Tyler Johnson went 1 for 3 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.
-Senior
Braiden Galvin went 1-3 with two runs scored.
-Senior
Gavin Zappe went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
-Senior starting pitcher
CJ Kalekas picked up his second win of the season going 6 innings with 4 strikeouts.
-Junior
Jackson Tanko came in relief for DU and went 2.1 and picked up 2 strikeouts in his outing.

What's Next:
Dominican University Baseball improved to 7-4 on the season and finished up their Spring Break trip going 5-3. The Stars will leave Florida winning back-to-back games and look to start a win streak in Rock Island, Illinois, next weekend. DU will play three games at the Augustana College, with the first game being on March 15
th against Illinois College at 1:30 p.m.
