River Forest, Ill. – Men's Volleyball battled in the NACC Tournament, Baseball traveled for a pair of doubleheaders on the road, Softball looked to stay hot at home, Golf ventured to Springfield for a two-day tournament, and Men's and Women's Track and Field stayed local for the Concordia Invite.
Men's Volleyball headed into the NACC tournament in strong form, and would continue their winning ways first with a four-set victory at home over the fifth seed Marian University on Tuesday. Senior Casey Goss led the way for DU, collecting 13 kills in the match along with 3 aces and 3 blocks. Junior Michael Greco was unstoppable at the net, totaling 8 kills on .889 hitting while amassing 6 blocks. After the victory over Marian, the Stars were on the road for the NACC Semifinal against top seed and No. 11 ranked Aurora University on Thursday. Despite a gritty performance, Dominican fell in straight sets, ending their 2025 season. Sophomore Ty Geschke closed out his excellent sophomore season with a 15 kill and 5 dig performance. DUMVB finished the 2025 campaign with a 14-11 overall record, going 9-3 in conference play and was 8-4 in the Igini Sports Forum.
Baseball was on the road for a pair of doubleheaders, first against Benedictine on Thursday. In both games, the Stars were unable to silence the bats of the Eagles, dropping Game 1, 18-8, and Game 2, 18-0. In Game 1, Junior Matthew Earley and Junior Zach Helein combined for 3 hits and 5 RBIs for DU. After this setback against BenU, Dominican refocused on MSOE on Saturday. In Game 1, the Stars kept it tight with the Raiders, trailing 4-2 after four innings of play; however, four runs in the bottom of the fifth saw MSOE take the opening game of the doubleheader, 11-6. Senior Michael Christoper went 2-4 with 2 RBIs, while Junior Niko Krecu finished with a two-run home run. In Game 2, an explosive opening found the Stars trailing 6-2 after three innings. This deficit proved too much for DU to overcome, falling 14-4. Krecu hit his second two-run home run of the day in the loss. Helein finished 1-3 with 2 runs scored. Baseball will have a chance to right the ship at home this week, first with a standalone, non-conference game against Loras College on Thursday, April 17
th. First pitch will be at 3:30 p.m. Following Loras, Dominican will take on Wisconsin Lutheran at Wintrust Field on Saturday, April 19
th for a doubleheader, with Game 1 starting at 12:00 p.m.
Softball entered the week of April 7
th riding a four-game winning streak with a pair of doubleheaders at home upcoming. First, on Tuesday, the Stars hosted Benedictine for a pair of games in Rosemont, where DU claimed victory in both. In Game 1, after BenU took a 3-2 lead into the fourth inning, an explosion of offense by Dominican, including a two RBI single by Senior Liliana Santoyo lifted the Stars to an eventual 11-3 win in six innings. Senior Emma Woodhouse pitched a complete game, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, while Freshman Raegyn Davis went 2-4 with 4 RBIs. In Game 2, another tight start to the contest saw Dominican grab the lead in the bottom of the fifth after hits by Junior
Ryley Davis and Senior Gillian Czubernat. The Stars defeated the Eagles 6-4 in the second game. Sophomore Liberty Rivard was awarded the win, pitching 3 innings and allowed zero runs. In the batter's box, Senior Hanna Voegtle was 1-3 with 2 RBIs. After the two wins over Benedictine, Dominican hosted the then NACC leaders MSOE on Saturday. In the first game, a big second inning by DU pushed the Stars to victory by a final of 5-0. Woodhouse once again pitched a complete game, this time earning the shutout while only allowing 5 hits. 4 different Stars players earned an RBI in the win. In Game 2, Dominican jumped out to a 2-0 lead after a 2 RBI triple by Ra. Davis. After MSOE took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth, DU regrouped and reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the same inning off a 2 RBI double by Czubernat. The Stars then shut down the Raider offense, winning the second game of the day and their eighth game in a row by a final of 4-3. Softball enters the week of April 14
th with a busy schedule ahead of them, first with a non-conference doubleheader at home against Lake Forest College on Wednesday, April 16
th, with first pitch slated for 5:00 p.m. Following Lake Forest, the Stars will travel to St. Norbert College on Thursday, April 17
th, with Game 1 of that doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. Finally, to wrap up the week, Dominican will be at Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday, April 19
th for a 12:00 p.m. start to the doubleheader.
Golf was in action at the Illinois College Blueboy Invitational in Springfield over Thursday and Friday. DU was paced by Freshman Luka Stundins, who shot 77 and 80 over the two-day event. Following Stundins, Senior Patrick Crampton carded an 84 and 79 and Freshman Clay Austin posted scores of 82 and 86. Golf will travel to Randal Oaks Golf Club for the Judson Invitational on Monday, April 14
th.
Men's and Women's Track and Field participated in the Concordia Invite on Friday and Saturday, which was hosted by Concordia University Chicago. Freshman Jayla Harris took 2
nd place in Women's Shot Put, throwing a best of 10.15m. In the Women's 100m, Graduate Student Lauren Mark placed 4
th with a time of 13.94. Sophomore Fatima Duran placed 8
th in the Women's 800m, recording a time of 2:48.55. In the Men's 1500m, Sophomore Diego Valdivia placed 1
st with a time of 4:17.18. Valdivia also went on to place 6
th in the Men's 800m with a time of 2:06.86. Sophomore Jose Murillo recorded a time of 12.02 in the Men's 100m, placing him in 17
th. DUT&F will continue the spring season at the Green and White Invite in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Saturday, April 19
th.
