River Forest, Ill. – The Dominican University Department of Athletics and
Dr. John Planek have announced the hiring of
Sergio Miranda as the head coach of the Dominican University Cross Country and Track and Field Programs.
Miranda, an Aurora, Illinois native, graduated from Lewis University, where Miranda ran for the Flyers in the Cross-Country and Track and Field programs. Miranda is currently the Lewis University record holder for the indoor mile, outdoor 1500 meters, and both indoor and outdoor 4x400 meter relay. Miranda was also first-team All-American in 2016 and 2017. After graduation Miranda stayed on the Lewis staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
Before coming to Dominican University, Miranda continued to compete, he competed for the Mexican Olympic trials in the 800-meter dash and advanced to the national final. He also competed with the Austrian and Netherlands Olympic distance teams. Finally, Miranda was hired at Joliet Central High School as the head coach for the girls' track and field team.
