Stars Strike Early and Hold on for a 1-0 Win on the Road

De Pere, Wis. – The Dominican University Men's Soccer team headed to St. Norbert College looking to win three straight matches.

  How it Happened:
-Dominican did not let any time pass before setting the tone for the game, with Junior Tristen Banquil scoring just 27 seconds into the game.
-SNC had the next 5 shots in the match, 4 of those shots were saved by the Freshman goalkeeper Cody Leyba.
-Sophomore Jonathan Almaguer has been on fire for DU, and he fired his first shot on goal in the 29th minute that was saved by the Green Knights goalie.
-St. Norbert would finish the half with the final 3 of 4 shots, but none were on the target.
-Despite having a 1-0 lead, Dominican got outshot 8-3 in the first half and 6-0 in the corner kick margin.
-The Stars got the first two shots in the second half, one by Freshman Enzo Cinque and the other by Sophomore Nicholas Porada both shots were saved by the keeper.
-Leyba was tested in the 64th and 72nd minute of the math with shots by the Green Knights, but Leyba was able to save both to hold a 1-0 lead.
-1-0 would result in the final score.

  Shining Stars:
-Freshman Coda Leyba was incredible for Dominican in goal, having 6 saves and earning his first collegiate shutout.
-Junior Tristen Banquil was the lone goal scorer for DU, scoring just 27 seconds into the match.
-Sophomore Nicholas Porada fired off 3 shots, but only one hit the target.
-Sophomore Jonathan Almaguer continued to stay hot for the Stars, earning the assist on the lone goal and recording a shot on target.

  What's Next:
Dominican University Men's Soccer improves to 3-4-2 on the season and 3-1 in NACC play. The Stars will be back in action on Wednesday, October 1st, as they head to Mequon, Wisconsin, to play the Falcons of Concordia Wisconsin. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
