Stars Claim Fourth Consecutive Sweep

Plymouth, Wis. – Dominican University Men's Volleyball began NACC play with a road test at Lakeland on Thursday night.
 
 Results:
  Dominican: 3
  Lakeland: 0

  How it Happened:
-Both squads battled to open the match, with the Stars eventually taking a 9-5 lead after a 3-0 run for Graduate Student Casey Goss.
-After Dominican and Lakeland traded side-outs, DU began to pull away via another run from Goss, eventually giving the Stars a 20-13 advantage.
-Sophomore Kendall Esparza closed out the first set with a 5-0 run, as Dominican took the first set, 25-14. Junior Thomas Hirsch and Senior Michael Greco combined for 6 kills and 5 blocks in the opening frame.
-DU took command of the second set early, as Goss opened the set with a 6-0 run, which included kills by Sophomore Kendall Esparza and Sophomore Landon Kassulke.
-The Stars kept the Muskies at bay as the second set developed, with DU taking a 15-6 lead after a kill by Junior Ty Geschke.
-A 3-0 run by Geschke closed out the second for Dominican by a score of 25-11. Esparza tallied 3 kills and a block in Set 2.
-Dominican surged out to another 6-0 start to the third set, this time powered by Esparza.
-Lakeland would side out, but high-flying attacks from Greco and Geschke kept DU ahead by a score of 15-8.
-After the Stars took a 21-10 lead, the Muskies would begin to mount a comeback, but Dominican was able to close out the match in a sweep, taking the final frame by a score of 25-17.
-DU dominated in every major category, outhitting Lakeland .418 to -.054 and led in aces 7-1, blocking 8-2, assists 36-17, and digs 30-20.
-This win marks the first time since 2021 that Dominican started the season 4-0 without dropping a set in those matches.

  Shining Stars:
-Junior Ty Geschke led the Stars' attack, posting a team high 10 kills on .643 hitting alongside 5 digs.
-Senior Michael Greco notched 8 kills on .778 hitting and added 2 solo blocks.
-Junior Thomas Hirsch tallied 7 kills, 4 aces, and 6 blocks.
-Sophomore Landon Kassulke dished 30 assists in the win.
- Junior Grant Henderson amassed 7 digs.

  What's Next:
Dominican University Men's Volleyball improved to 4-0 (0-0 NACC) on the 2026 season. The Stars will return home to host the #9 team in the country, California Lutheran, on Sunday, February 1st. The match against Cal Lutheran is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m.
