Stars' Comeback Bid Denied by Benedictine

Lisle, Ill. – The Dominican University Men's Basketball team went on the road to take on Benedictine on Wednesday night.

Results:
Dominican: 70
Lakeland: 78

 How it Happened:
-The Eagles started the game on a 10-0 run, which was cut out via a layup by Sophomore Braydon Murphy.
-Junior Antony Fernandez knocked down back-to-back three pointers to give Dominican a spark, as the Stars trailed 18-8 with nine minutes gone.
-Dominican continued to fight in the first half, with Sophomore Frank Paszkowski cashing in a two-for-two trip to the line and Junior Dean O'Brien and Fernandez connecting from deep.
-Benedictine ultimately took a 46-27 lead into the second half. Fernandez hit 4 threes in the first half.
-After BenU went up 55-33, the Stars began the climb back into the game, with Sophomore Ismael Ndiaye Matheu knocking down a pair of free throws and five straight points by Paszkowski.
-Freshman Elijah Daugherty began to catch fire in the second half, frequently getting to the line and the paint, cutting the Eagles' lead to 67-60 with six minutes remaining.
-The Benedictine lead was five after a midrange jumper by Senior Dominic Crapia, and after BenU answered, Crapia would knock down another shot to keep the game within two possessions.
-With DU in the bonus, Daugherty continued to get to the line and cash in his free throws, as the Stars trailed 74-70 with less than a minute to go.
-After fouling, Dominican could not answer a pair of free throws by the Eagles and had to foul again to extend the game.
-The Stars would ultimately fall by a final score of 78-70.
-Dominican shot 42.4% from the field, 34.4% from three, and 64.3% from the line.

 Shining Stars:
-Sophomore Frank Paszkowski paced DU in offense, totaling 17 points and was 3-8 from deep.
-Junior Antony Fernandez posted career highs in points (15) and threes made (5).
-Freshman Elijah Daugherty rattled off 13 points alongside 4 assists and 3 rebounds.
-Sophomore Braydon Murphy totaled 12 rebounds and 2 assists.

 What's Next:
 The Dominican University Men's Basketball team moves to 1-21 (1-14 NACC) on the season. The Stars will host Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday, February 14th, for Senior Day and a Blue Out. Tip-off between DU and WLC will be at 3:15 p.m.
