Dominican Takes Down Rockford and UWSP in Triangular

River Forest, Ill. – The Dominican University Men's Volleyball team hosted a tri-match against Rockford and Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday.
 
 Match One Results:
  Dominican: 3
  Rockford: 0

  How it Happened:
-DU got off to a blazing start with a 6-3 lead and was added to via a 6-0 run by Junior Ty Geschke behind the line.
-The Stars cruised to a big win in the first set, 25-10. Junior Thomas Hirsch and Geschke combined for 9 kills in the first set.
-The second started tighter, but Dominican began to pull away with a 9-5 lead.
-A 4-0 run by Graduate Student Casey Goss pushed the DU lead to 14-9.
-Dominican closed out the second with a 5-0 run by Freshman Dylan Roszak and took the middle frame 25-16. Junior Richie Johnson had a pair of kills in Set 2.
-The third set started with an 8-2 lead in favor of DU, which included an ace by Sophomore Kendall Esparza and a kill by Freshman Eli Rodda.
-Dominican reached a 15-6 lead after a pair of kills by Hirsch.
-The Stars were able to close out the Regents in straight sets, taking the third by a score of 25-16. Freshman Andrew Gunara had 5 assists in the final frame.
-DU hit .347 as a team and had 9 aces to 9 service errors.

  Shining Stars:
-Junior Thomas Hirsch led the attack for DU, posting 10 kills alongside 4 blocks and 4 digs.
-Junior Ty Geschke posted 7 kills on .500 hitting.
-Junior Richie Johnson collected 6 kills.
-Sophomore Landon Kassulke dished 26 assists in the victory.
-Junior Grant Henderson led the squad in digs with 8.

 Match Two Results:

  How it Happened:
-In each team's second match of the day, it was Dominican who got out to a quick start, taking a 10-4 lead through mini-runs by Sophomore Landon Diaz and Junior Thomas Hirsch.
-The Stars extended their lead to 16-6 after back-to-back kills from Junior Ty Geschke.
-DU had no problem closing out the first set, taking the opener by a score of 25-17. Geschke and Sophomore Kendall Esparza combined for 9 kills in the first.
-UWSP kept the opening of Set 2 tight, but Sophomore Landon Kassulke created some distance between the two squads with a 4-0 run for DU, taking an 8-4 lead.
-Dominican jumped out to a 15-10 lead after a kill on an overpass by Geschke.
-The Stars held off the Pointers to take a 2-0 lead in the match, winning Set 2 25-18. Kassulke totaled 13 assists in the second.
-Wisconsin-Stevens Point had an early 9-6 advantage in the third set and was threatening with some high-powered offense.
-The Pointers nabbed the third set by a score of 25-22 despite 6 kills from Geschke.
-After a 7-7 opening to the fourth set, it was UWSP who sprang out to a 15-11 lead.
-Dominican battled back and was trailing 22-21, but the Pointers pushed the match to five, winning the fourth 25-22. Diaz added a kill and a block to his tally in Set 4.
-Determined to close out the match, the Stars had the 8-4 lead at the change-of-ends after a big kill by Esparza.
-The Stars would snuff out the comeback attempt by Wisconsin-Stevens Point, taking the decisive fifth set 15-8.

  Shining Stars:
-Junior Ty Geschke had another monster match, totaling 23 kills on .400 hitting. The Junior notched his 500th career kill and entered a tie for 6th for most kills in a single match in DU history.
-Sophomore Landon Kassulke notched 58 assists, joint 3 most in a single match in Dominican's history.
-Sophomore Kendall Esparza posted 17 kills on .640 hitting, a new career high when taking more than 10 attempts.
-Junior Thomas Hirsch totaled 12 kills, 3 aces, and 2 blocks.
-Graduate Student Casey Goss collected 11 kills, 2 blocks, and 3 digs.

  What's Next:
Dominican University Men's Volleyball improves to 10-2 (2-0 NACC) on the 2026 season. The Stars will head on the road to the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday, February 27th. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m.
