Stars Leave Minnesota Winless

Mankato, MN. – The Dominican University Softball team was back in action at the Bethany Lutheran Dome Tournament on Sunday, looking to bounce back from their game on Saturday.

Results:
Dominican: 2
#5 Saint Mary's, Minnesota: 5

How it Happened:
-Both teams went three-up and three-down in the first inning.
-The score remained scoreless until the top of the third inning, when Saint Mary's scored a run on three hits.
-Dominican instantly responded in their half of the third inning. Junior Emme Slavens reached on an error that drove home Sophomore Sara Cornell from third. Sophomore Isabella Olmos followed it up with a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Freshman Charlie Harris, who was running for Slavens.
-The Stars held a 2-1 lead until the top of the 5th inning when the Cardinals scored a run on three hits, while also taking advantage of a DU error.
-Dominican and the #5 team in the nation were tied at 2 until the top of the 7th inning when SMU hit a three-run homer that put Saint Mary's on top.
-DU was unable to get a runner on base in their half of the seventh inning.
 
Shining Stars:
-Junior Emme Slavens went 0-2 but drove home the first RBI of the game while reaching on an error.
-Sophomore Isabella Olmos went 0-3 but gave the Stars the lead for a portion of the game on a sacrifice fly.

How it Happened:
-Hamline started the game hot, scoring 3 runs on 3 hits and taking advantage of 2 Dominican errors.
-The Stars got a runner in scoring position in their half of the first inning, but could not manufacture a run.
-The score remained 3-0 until the top of the third inning when the Pipers scored 2 runs on 3 hits, making the score 5-0.
-DU found an answer in the bottom of the third with Sophomore Isabella Olmos hitting a solo homerun.
-The score would hold up 5-1 for the rest of the game.
 
Shining Stars:
-Sophomore Isabella Olmos went 3-4 with a homerun, an RBI, and a run scored.
-Senior Ryley Davis went 2-3.
-Junior Alyssa Craig pinch hit for Dominican and took advantage of her opportunity, going 1-1.

What's Next:
Dominican University Softball moves to 0-4 on the season and will take a two-week break before their spring break trip. The Stars will play 10 games in 6 days while in Winter Haven, Fla, starting on March 8th and ending on March 14th.
