Stars Clip Eagles on Alumni Day

River Forest, Ill. – The #18 Dominican University Men's Volleyball team looked to get back on track at home on Alumni Day against Edgewood on Saturday afternoon.
 
 Results:
 #18 Dominican: 3
 Edgewood: 0

  How it Happened:
-Edgewood took an early 6-3 lead against DU after a 3-0 run.
-After trailing 9-7, the Stars regained the initiative in the match, fueled by a 4-0 run by Graduate Student Casey Goss, which included an ace.
-Dominican continued to push their advantage, as an ace by Junior Ty Geschke gave DU a 17-15 lead.
-With the opening set tied at 24-24, the Stars rattled off two straight points, including Geschke's third ace of the set, to win the first by a score of 26-24. Junior Grant Henderson posted 5 digs in the opening stanza.
-The second set opened with a 7-4 margin in favor of Dominican after a big swing by Sophomore Kendall Esparza.
-With the score at 8-6, the Stars ultimately ballooned out to a 17-7 lead after a 9-1 run, involving kills by Geschke, Junior Thomas Hirsch, and Sophomore Landon Kassulke.
-Dominican continued to push the pace in the second, as a kill by Goss out of the back row put DU up 21-11.
-The Stars were able to see out the second by a final score of 25-11. Hirsch closed Set 2 with 5 kills, a block, and an ace.
-Set 3 began with both squads trading side-outs, but the Eagles would separate with a 10-7 advantage.
-After Edgewood extended its lead to 14-9, Junior Richie Johnson entered the match and helped swing momentum back in the favor of DU, putting up a 4-0 run to bring the Stars within one.
-With Dominican trailing 16-15, an 8-1 run pushed the Stars to a 22-17 lead, capped off with back-to-back aces by Goss.
-DU completed the sweep over Edgewood, taking the third and final frame by a score of 25-20.

  Shining Stars:
-Sophomore Kendall Esparza paced DU's offense with 9 kills alongside 5 digs and 3 blocks.
-Junior Thomas Hirsch notched 8 kills on .615 hitting and a team-high 4 blocks.
-Sophomore Landon Kassulke dished 31 assists in the victory.
-Junior Grant Henderson put on an impressive defensive performance with 10 digs.

  What's Next:
Dominican University Men's Volleyball improved to 11-3 (3-1 NACC) on the 2026 season. The Stars will get set for a River Forest showdown at Concordia Chicago on Thursday, March 5th. The match against the Cougars is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
