Dominican Falls to #1 Carthage

Kenosha, WI. – RV Dominican University Men's Volleyball faced its toughest test of the season thus far at #1 Carthage College on Saturday afternoon.
 
 Results:
 RV Dominican: 0
 #1 Carthage: 3

  How it Happened:
-The opening set started evenly between Dominican and Carthage, as an ace by Junior Ty Geschke brought the Stars to within a 7-6 deficit.
-DU took its first lead of the match at 11-10 after Junior Thomas Hirsch notched a kill through the middle.
-The Firebirds began to pull away from the Stars in the middle of the first set, but a solo block by Graduate Student Casey Goss halted the Carthage momentum.
-Carthage took the opening set by a score of 25-19. Geschke totaled 5 kills and an ace in the first.
-Dominican started the second set on the back foot, as the Firebirds opened with a 10-5 lead.
-The Stars fought to get back in the set, as Sophomore Kendall Esparza and Goss registered kills to keep the pressure on Carthage.
-Carthage was the first squad to reach 20 in the second set, as DU trailed 20-12.
-Despite late kills by Goss, Hirsch, and Geschke, the Firebirds took a 2-0 set lead in the match after taking the second by a score of 25-15.
-DU fell behind early, but a Carthage error from the service line and a kill by Goss brought the Stars to within one, trailing 6-5.
-An Esparza solo block stymied a 4-1 run for the Firebirds, as Dominican trailed 10-8.
-Carthage gained separation at the midpoint of the third set, with the Stars falling behind 20-12.
-DU dropped the third set by a score of 25-19 and fell in straight sets.

  Shining Stars:
-Junior Ty Geschke led Dominican's attack, registering 9 kills and adding 6 digs.
-Junior Thomas Hirsch posted 7 kills on .778 hitting.
-Sophomore Landon Kassulke tallied 21 assists and 6 digs.
-Graduate Student Casey Goss totaled 6 kills, 7 digs, and a block.

  What's Next:
RV Dominican University Men's Volleyball moved to 12-5 (4-2 NACC) on the 2026 season. The Stars will continue down this difficult streak of matches with their next match at #11 Aurora on Wednesday, March 18th. The match against the Spartans will begin at 7:00 p.m.
