Schaumburg, Ill. – Dominican University Baseball returned home on a rainy Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader against Rockford.
Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 14
Rockford: 12
How it Happened:
-Rockford took an early 1-0 lead after the top of the first. After a few scoreless innings, the Regents extended their lead to 3-0 at the top of the fourth.
-Dominican countered at the bottom of the fourth, as a single by Sophomore
Christian Pogorzelski drove in Senior
Tyler Johnson, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
-At the bottom of the fifth, DU's offense exploded. The offensive outburst began with a base-clearing double by Johnson, which scored Senior
Ricky Powell, Senior
Niko Krecu, and Freshman
Austin Long. Junior
Alex Garcia then homered to left, scoring himself and Johnson. By the end of the fifth, the Stars were leading 6-3.
-The Regents regained the lead at 8-6 at the top of the sixth.
-DU continued to generate offense at the bottom of the sixth, as a double to left by Powell brought home Krecu and Long. Johnson then launched a double to left field, regaining the advantage for Dominican at 9-8.
-Another explosive offensive inning at the bottom of the seventh for the Stars began with a bases-loaded walk for Senior
Matthew Earley, which brought home Junior
Aidan Groberski. Powell then drew a walk, bringing home Long. Johnson then added again to his already impressive day with a two RBI single, which scored Earley and Senior
Zach Helein. Powell ended the inning by scoring on a Rockford error, in total extending DU's lead to 14-8.
-Senior
Aaron O'Grady shut the door on Rockford while on the mound at the top of the eighth.
-The Regents began to mount a comeback at the top of the ninth, scoring four runs to cut the lead to 14-12, but Sophomore
Koufax Cranmer sealed the victory for the Stars by recording two quick outs.
-DU's 14 runs were the most in a victory this season.
Shining Stars:
-Senior
Tyler Johnson had a remarkable performance, setting career-highs in hits (3), doubles (2), runs scored (2), and RBIs (6).
-Junior
Alex Garcia finished 205 with a two-run homer, his 3
rd home run in five games.
-Freshman
Austin Long and Sophomore
Christian Pogorzelski combined for 6 hits on 9 at-bats, 3 runs scored, and an RBI. Long recorded a stolen base, while Pogorzelski hit a triple.
-Senior Ricky Powel was 1-3 with 3 RBIs, a double, and 3 runs scored.

How it Happened:
-The Regents flipped the script on the Stars in Game 2, as the visitors led 10-0 after four innings of play.
-Dominican struggled to find offense throughout the second contest.
-Rockford added 9 more runs between the fifth and sixth innings to extend its lead to 19-0.
-Despite gaining base runners, DU could not bring any home, falling 19-0 in Game 2.

What's Next:
Dominican University Baseball moves to 8-12 (2-6 NACC) on the season. The Stars will be back on the road on Thursday, April 2
nd, for a non-conference doubleheader at Loras. First pitch for Game 1 is slated for 1:00 p.m.
