River Forest, Ill. – Labor Day is officially here, and the first week of Stars action has come to an end with all of our programs participating this past week.

Men's Soccer started off the season on the right foot with a 1-0 win at West Campus Field against Blackburn Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore Enzo Cinque buried the game-winning goal in the 87th minute of the match with Sophomores Eduardo Lopez and Josue Villanueva assisting on the goal. The other two matches this week for DUMSOC were postponed, and the Stars will be back on the pitch Wednesday afternoon as they host Knox College on September 9th, at 2:00 p.m. Dominican will then hit the road for a 3:30 p.m. road contest at Lake Forest College on September 12th.

Women's Soccer had an incredible start to the season in their two matches played this weekend. DUWSOC did not give up a goal in the matches and scored six of their own. The first match was a 5-0 win over Greenville University, and DU had 3 freshmen score their first collegiate goals. Freshman Grace Durante, Renna Gravenhof, and Azara Waite all found the back of the net. The other two goals came from Senior Mackenize Cuddihy from a free kick and Junior Tia Garr from the penalty spot. In the second match, Dominican beat Wheaton College behind the lone goal from Senior Rachelle Pinto in the 15th minute of the match. Junior Gianna Stanek earned the shutout with 2 saves in the victory. Women's soccer has two matches this upcoming week, including their home opener on September 9th against Illinois Wesleyan at 4:30p.m. The Stars will then travel to the University of Dubuque for a road contest against the Spartans on September 12th, at 3:30 p.m.

Women's Volleyball was back on the court this past week with just one match at Eureka College, where the Red Devils got the best of the Stars, but Sophomore Olivia Pollak showed out after missing her freshman year due to an injury. Pollak earned 6 kills and 8 assists in the match. DUWVB has a busy week as they are playing in 5 matches this upcoming week. The first being on the road on September 8th at Alverno College. The Stars will then be participating in the MSOE Raider Invite, where they will play in four total matches, two on Friday and two on Saturday.

Men's and Women's Cross Country started their campaign Friday morning in the 95-degree heat at the Flyer Early Bird Invitational. Senior Samuel Malke and Fatima Duran led their respective programs. Malke finished top forty with a 22:42.2 time, and Duran finished 54th with a 20:48.0 in the race. Freshman Sarah Johnson made a name for herself in her first meet of her college career, running a time of 22:19. 7. DUXC is right back in action this upcoming week in Batavia, IL.


 
Stars of the Week for the week of August 31st to September 6th:

Senior Fatima Duran of the women's cross-country team earned Star of the week with her performance on the course. Duran finished with a time of 20:48.0 in the first race of the season.

Senior Samuel Malke of the men's cross-country team earned Star of the Week with his top forty performance on Friday morning. Malke finished with a time of 22:42.2 in the race.
