Matt Rice joins the Dominican University Athletics staff as an assistant coach for the 2013 season. Rice, a 2012 graduate of North Park University, earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education while earning four letters with the Vikings’ baseball team, including a breakout senior campaign in 2012 when he was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Central Region Second Team in leading the Vikings to their first NCAA Regional appearance since 1990. As a senior, Rice posted a .392 batting average with 62 hits, including seven extra-base hits, with 43 runs scored and 18 runs batted in.
In addition to his playing experience, Rice has served as a coach and baseball instructor for kids ages 4-16. Rice has organized and instructed drills for t-ball players, coached a team of 13-14 year olds and has taught one-on-one hitting lessons in addition to coaching freshman football at Niles West High School.
