In just his third season as the head coach of the Dominican University baseball program, Terry Casey led the Stars to the program's first trip to the NCAA Division III National Tournament in 2006. Under Casey the Stars have reached a number of firsts for the program including posting the program's first winning season in 2005, the program's first 20-win season in 2006 and the first back-to-back winning regular seasons (2005, 2006).
In 2006, Casey and the Stars won the program's first conference tournament championship, knocking off the top two teams in the Lake Michigan Conference en route to the 2006 LMC Tournament Title. The conference tournament championship also sealed the Stars' trip to the 2006 NCAA Division III National Tournament. In that year, Dominican set the program single-season win mark with 21 victories.
In 2005, Casey coached his first set of American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Region athletes as both Adam Lotus and Mark Higgins were named to the All-Central Region 3rd Team. Then in 2006 Nathan Mercado garnered 2nd Team All-Region honors and Bret Dvorak earned 3rd Team All-Region honors under Casey. In addition, Casey recruited and coached Mike Eifel who graduated from the university in the Spring of 2008 and became the first player to be selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Players draft in university history.
A 1997 graduate of Dominican University, Casey was the school's first four-year starter for baseball, serving as a captain for two years. Upon graduation, he served as an assistant coach for the baseball team for four years before inheriting the team as head coach.
Casey's baseball background expands beyond Dominican University. Currently Casey serves as a hitting instructor at Line Drive Baseball Academy. Casey won two state titles and was the national runner-up once as the head coach for the Mount Greenwood Brewers, a baseball club team on Chicago's south side. Casey also coached for Swingtown in a wooden-bat summer league.
In addition to his coaching duties at Dominican University, Casey also serves as Associate Director of Admission.
