Zac Basile, 2013 alum of Dominican University, joins the sports information staff in his third year as a Game-Day Sports Information Assistant.
During Basiles’s stretch as a student at Dominican, he became an integral part of the Stars’ athletic department. Basile was the manager for the baseball program for four years (two of them under head coach Steve Hardman). Besides working for the baseball program, Basile was also involved with Ken Trendel, assistant to the director of athletics for sports information, as a student assistant, game-day statistician, P.A. announcer, video coordinator and other technical roles within the department. Basile was involved in the department’s conversion to Stretch Internet for in-game video streaming, creating graphics for the department's live streams and integrating the information from the game scoreboard onto the broadcast automatically. Basile was also given the responsibility to help spearhead the production of all baseball games at Boomers Stadium with the integration and use of the video board for all games. Since Basile's start in 2009, the home atmosphere for all home athletic events, especially baseball, has increased tremendously and will continue to prosper because of his technical expertise and love for athletics. Furthermore, Basile has improved the use and availability of in-game statistics for the play-by-play broadcast and associated crew.
As a former coach for the baseball staff for two years, Basile has implemented a lot of analysis on player development and scouting by the use of advanced metrics. Statistics and analysis have become an important tool in the development of the baseball program at Dominican University. Basile is still involved in the analysis of metrics for the team during his free time.
Besides working for the Stars, Basile is not limited to the college atmosphere. He has become an official scorer for the Schaumburg Boomers, a member in the Frontier league, and has contracted for other baseball clubs in the Chicagoland area. Basile has worked for various basketball and volleyball tournaments in the area specializing in game operations and statistics. Basile has also been involved with the IHSA Football and Volleyball State Finals as an official statistician for the championship games. On the field, Basile is personally involved with the Single-A Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate: The Kane County Cougars. Basile is a six year veteran on the grounds crew for the Cougars and holds the title as an Assistant Groundskeeper.
