A hall of fame coach, Erick Baumann enters his 31st season as the head coach of the Dominican University (formerly Rosary College) men’s soccer program. Throughout his highly decorated career, Baumann has won 12 conference and four region coach of the year honors while amassing a 463-119-50 overall record while leading his program to a total of 22 conference tournament championships and 19 national tournaments. Baumann’s .772 career winning percentage ranks him amongst the top 20 winningest soccer coaches in NCAA history and currently sits third in active DIII coaching wins.
In 2009, Baumann guided the Stars to the school’s first and only appearance in a national semifinal, narrowly falling to the Calvin College Knights, 1-0. Along the way, Baumann’s Stars collected a 19-2-3 overall record, going a perfect 11-0-0 to capture the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference regular season and tournament championships.
Baumann has recruited and coached over 50 All-Region honorees during his tenure as the Stars’ head coach including 11 All-Americans and seven Scholar All-Americans. Most recently, Dylan Alic was named to the United Soccer Coaches Division III All-American Team and the Scholar All-American Team in 2023 and in 2024.
Baumann was a unanimous selection for the university’s inaugural hall of fame class in 2011. He is the university’s all-time leader in wins in any sport and has captured more conference championships and national tournament berths than any other coach in the department’s history. He has worked to build a robust alumni group for the men’s soccer team. That alumni group was instrumental in the construction of the program’s West Campus Field, a state of the art artificial playing surface widely considered one of the best in the Chicagoland area.
In addition to his success as a soccer coach, Baumann served as the director of athletics at Dominican University for more than 15 years. He led the department through a number of strategic plans that saw eight of Dominican’s 12 intercollegiate programs post record win totals during his tenure.
As a collegiate soccer player, Baumann captained the then Rosary Rebels men’s soccer team from 1990-1993. During his senior season, Baumann was named the team’s most valuable player and landed on the NAIA All-District Team for District 20.
