Catherine Conte makes the transition from student-athlete to coach, joining head coach Cristina Lukas’s staff as an assistant coach for the 2017 season. Conte, a three-year letterwinner with the Dominican University softball program, graduated from the university in 2016 before joining the Lady Tigers as a coach with the club’s 14U team and now works as a physical therapy assistant at Athletico.
During her playing career at Dominican, Conte posted a career batting average of .290 after hitting a career-best .321 as a senior in 2016. In 114 career games, the Elmwood Park native collected 83 hits, including 21 extra-base hits and driving in 52 runs. In the field, Conte posted a .963 fielding percentage, committing just 16 errors while playing at three different positions, catcher, second base and shortstop. During her time with the Stars, Dominican went 76-46 while appearing in three Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournaments. Her senior season, the Stars posted the program's best regular season conference finish, finishing the season tied for second in the NACC standings.
