Men’s Soccer Win Streak Snapped By Falcons

The Dominican University men’s soccer team had an 11-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon as the Stars played to a scoreless draw, 0-0, with the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons. The tie moves the Stars to 11-0-1 overall on the season and 6-0-1 in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) play.
The Stars, boasting the nation’s 11th-best offense scoring over three goals per game, were unable to score on the Falcons’ defense, being shutout for the first time in a NAC regular season match since the conference’s inception in 2006; the Stars had won 32 consecutive NAC regular season matches entering Saturday.
Dominican, led by freshman #Trent Miller’s# (Rockford, Ill.) five shots, held an 18-7 advantage in shots, putting seven shots on frame compared to just one for the Falcons. The Stars also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks, but it was Concordia Wisconsin’s Samuel Ische’s seven saves in goal for the Falcons that kept Dominican off the board.
Defensively, the shutout was Dominican’s tenth of the season. Maxwell Gutbrod (Slinger, Wis.) logged one save on the afternoon, dropping his goals against average to 0.18 with just two goals against in 1,010 minutes of action.
The Stars will return to the pitch on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wis., as the Stars will take on the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors on the road in NAC action. Dominican will then return home on Saturday, October 16, playing host to the Wartburg College Knights in a non-conference tilt.
