Men’s Soccer Rolls Through MSOE

Dominican University’s Kyle Boekeloo (Woodridge, Ill.) notched what proved to the game-winner in just the second minute of play, as the Dominican University Stars topped the MSOE Raiders, 3-0, in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) men’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Stars to a national-best 15-0-1 overall and 9-0-1 in the NAC.
Ten minutes later, freshman Trent Miller (Rockford, Ill.) scored on a corner kick to give Dominican a 2-0 advantage over the Raiders who fell to 8-8-0 overall and 7-3-0 in conference. In the 21st minute, Mike Kapusta (Bartlett, Ill.) netted his team-leading 12th goal of the season to put the Stars on top 3-0.
Three goals was more than enough for the Dominican University defense and junior goalkeeper Maxwell Gutbrod (Slinger, Wis.) who posted his 12th shutout of the season, lowering his goals against average to 0.14, best in Division III.
Gutbrod faced just four shots on the afternoon, logging two saves as Dominican outshot the Raiders 20-4. The Stars put five shots on frame, compared to just two shots on goal for the Raiders. Dominican also held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Stars have a quick turnaround, traveling to Dubuque, Iowa, to take on the Loras College Duhawks on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in the Rock Bowl. The Stars then close out the 2010 regular season on Tuesday, hosting the Rockford College Regents for a 3:00 p.m. tilt on Dominican’s West Campus Field.
