Harris’ Double-Double Leads Men’s Basketball Past MacMurray

Freshman Logan Harris (Pleasant Plains, Ill.) tallied 18 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Dominican University men’s basketball team past the MacMurray College Highlanders, 86-67, in River Forest on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Stars to 6-4 on the season while dropping MacMurray to 2-5.
After the Highlanders scored on the first possession of the game to take a 2-0 lead, the Stars rattled off six straight points capped by a Darrius Nelson (Michigan City, Ind.) lay in and never looked back. Freshman Taylor DeRoo (Holland, Mich.), making his first start of the season, extended the Stars’ lead to 9-4, nailing a three-pointer less than two minutes into the first half.
Dominican led by as many as 16 in the first twenty minutes and led 46-33 at the break as Milos Mandic (Munster, Ind.) tallied two of his season-high 16 to close out the first half.
The Stars opened the second half with an 8-2 run with Marquis Turley (Grand Rapids, Mich.) sparking the run with back-to-back buckets to put the Stars ahead 54-35. Dominican continued to extend its lead, stretching its advantage to 27 (71-44) on a Mandic rebound and put back with ten minutes to play, and then coasted to the non-conference victory.
Harris and Mandic led four players in double-figures for the Stars with DeRoo adding 14 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the field and junior Kevin Blackowicz (Mundelein, Ill.) scoring 11 points in the winning effort.
Dominican shot 50 percent from the field (35-for-70) while holding the Highlanders to 24-for-60 shooting and forcing 20 turnovers.
The Stars, winners of four of their last five contests, will return to action on Tuesday, squaring off with Trine University in Orlando, Fla.
