The Dominican University women’s basketball team topped the North Park University Vikings 77-67 in River Forest on Saturday afternoon, extending its winning streak to ten games and improve to 10-1 on the season.
Trailing 6-4 with 16:46 remaining in the first half, the Stars scored ten straight, including a three-point play by junior
Becky Christofferson (Summit, S.D.), to open a 14-6 lead. The Vikings answered with an 11-3 run of their own to knot the score at 17-all with ten minutes to play in the first half.
The Stars recovered as
Danielle Miller (Centralia, Ill.) and
Magdalena Kaminska (Chicago, Ill.) connected on layups on back-to-back possessions before
Kayla Blom (Circle Pines, Minn.) scored five straight for the Stars to stake Dominican to a 26-17 advantage and led 40-30 at the break.
Dominican maintained the lead in the second half behind 12 points from Christofferson. The Stars’ guard was 2-for-6 from the field in the half and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the final twenty minutes.
Christofferson finished the game with 17 points while Blom’s season-high 23 points paced the Stars. Kaminska, a freshman, came off the bench to add 14 points while junior
Sarah Budz (Orland Park, Ill.) rounded out four Stars in double-figures with ten points.
Lyndsey Thompson paced the Vikings with 16 points, going 6-for-17 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
Dominican will enjoy nearly two weeks off, returning to game action on Friday, December 31, taking on the North Central College Cardinals. Tip is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Naperville.
