The Dominican University women’s soccer team opened Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) play on Saturday afternoon with a dominant performance in a 3-0 win over the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders.
Senior Katie Petty (Crystal Lake, Ill.) broke a scoreless tie in the 73rd minute, scoring on a header off of a corner kick. Just three minutes later, the Stars pushed their lead to 2-0 as Elizabeth Ficek (Bloomington, Ill.) netted her second goal of the season. Adrienne Ryba (Roselle, Ill.) capped an action packed four minute span, logging her first goal of the season and giving the Stars a 3-0 advantage.
Dominican blasted 24 shots on the afternoon while holding the Crusaders to zero shots and had a 14-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The win improved the Stars overall record to 3-2-0 on the season. Dominican will return to action on Wednesday, when they travel down Division Street to take on neighborhood rival Concordia University Chicago. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m.
