The Dominican University women’s tennis picked up a pair of Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) victories on Saturday at the Oak Park Tennis and Fitness Centre indoor courts, topping the Marian University Sabres 5-4 before upending the Lakeland College Muskies 7-2.
The victories improved the Stars to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in NAC play. Sophomore Emily Hereford (St. Louis, Mo.) had a big day for the Stars, upending both her opponents in singles play, topping Marian’s Rachel Brotz at number four singles 6-4, 6-2 before cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lakeland’s Brittany Myszak.
Monica Budzak (Chicago, Ill.) and Viatra Baker (North Aurora, Ill.) won both their singles matches at vie and six singles for Dominican respectively. Baker, with the match on the line, rallied from a 2-6 first set loss to Marian’s Bryanna Paradiso, winning the second and third sets 6-3, 6-3 to win the match for the Stars. The duo of Budzak and Baker also teamed at number three singles, topping Marian’s Paradiso and Sarah Brooker to claim the Stars’ lone point in doubles action in the match.
In the Lakeland victory, the Stars swept 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles as well as 2 and 3 doubles.
The Stars return to the courts on Sunday, hosting Purdue University-Calumet at Taylor Park for a non-conference dual match. Play is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m.
