The Dominican University Stars improved to 6-0-0 on the season and 2-0-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) with a convincing 5-0 win over the Marian University Sabres in Fon du Lac, Wis., on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Marcus Salinas (Woodridge, Ill.) put the Stars on the board, netting his first goal of the season in the 39th minute as Dominican took a 1-0 lead into the half. In the 58th minute, senior Michael Kapusta (Bartlett, Ill.) tallied the first of two goals on the afternoon, to give the Stars some breathing room.
After Edwin Lagunas (Waukegan, Ill.) found the back of the net in the 62nd minute, Kapusta tallied his fifth goal of the season in the 75th minute. Freshman Petar Milenkovich (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) rounded out the Stars’ scoring in the 90th minute of play.
Dominican stuffed the stat sheet, ripping 22 shots, 14 on goal, while surrendering just three shots to the Sabres. Junior goalkeeper Miguel Mondragon (Broadview, Ill.), making his first start of the 2010 campaign, picked up the win in goal for the Stars, posting on save on the afternoon.
Dominican is now 42-0-1 all-time in NAC regular season play. The Stars will leave NAC play, entertaining the Wheaton College Thunder on Thursday afternoon for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff on Dominican’s West Campus Field. The Stars then return to conference play on Saturday, as they host the Lakeland College Muskies.
