Sophomore Kelly Gerwitz (Florissant, Mo.) knotted the score at 1-1 in the 89th minute and then lifted the Stars past the Marian University Sabres in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) women’s soccer action with the game-winning goal in the 107th minute. Gerwitz, a 5’5 sophomore, had just three assists in 19 career games before Saturday, but helped Dominican University improve to 5-2-0 on the season and 3-0-0 in the NAC with her first two career goals and first game-winning goal.
Despite the tight score, the Stars dominated the stat sheet on the afternoon outshooting the Sabres 24-4 and holding a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Marian University’s Tiffany Erdman, a 5’4 senior goalkeeper, logged 11 saves on the afternoon in 107 minutes in goal.
The Stars, riding a four-game winning streak, return to action on Tuesday, hosting the Benedictine University Eagles for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff in NAC play.
