Women’s Tennis Edged By Neighborhood Rival

The Dominican University women’s tennis team tried to battle from behind, trailing the Concordia Chicago Cougars 2-1 after doubles, but failed to complete the comeback, falling 5-4 in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) action on Saturday.
Emily Hereford (St. Louis, Mo.) and Courtney Bates (Bolingbrook, Ill.) picked up the Stars’ lone point in doubles play, topping their number three doubles counterpart 8-2. However, the Stars and Cougars split the six singles flights with Rachel Taddy (Cary, Ill.), Monica Budzak (Chicago, Ill.) and Viatra Baker (North Aurora, Ill.) winning their respective flights at numbers two, five and six singles. Baker won a three-set match after losing the first set 6-2. The sophomore recovered in the second set 6-4 to force the tie-breaker set which she won 10-7.
The Stars fall to 5-4 on the season and 3-4 in the NAC. Dominican will host Rockford College on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Taylor Park.
