Men’s Soccer Keeps Rolling

The Dominican University men’s soccer team picked up its ninth win in as many games with a 4-0 drubbing of the Benedictine University Eagles on Tuesday afternoon. The Stars, now 9-0-0 on the season, left little doubt in the contest, scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal in the sixth minute of play as Michael Kapusta (Bartlett, Ill.) notched his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Kapusta gathered a loose ball near the top of the box, took one touch before blasting a shot past Jim Hanley, the Eagles’ goalkeeper, to give the Stars the early advantage.
Ryan Roberts (Elmhurst, Ill.) then took over, netting two first half goals and adding an insurance goal in the second half to log his first career hat-trick.
The Stars outshot the Eagles 22-1, putting ten shots on frame to just one shot on goal for Benedictine. In corner kicks, the Stars held a 10-0 advantage.
Junior goalkeeper Maxwell Gutbrod (Slinger, Wis.) picked up his sixth shutout of the season. Gutbrod was virtually untested, logging just one save as the Stars controlled possession throughout the match. Gutbrod is now 8-0-0 on the year and 16-1-1 for his career with a 0.34 goals against average.
Dominican will return to action on Saturday, hosting the Edgewood College Eagles for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff on West Campus Field. Dominican will be in search of its 31st straight Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) victory. Dominican has never been beaten in NAC regular season play and is 44-0-1 in 45 regular season conference contests, dating back to September 2006.
