The Dominican University women’s soccer team picked up its seventh consecutive victory on Wednesday evening with a 6-0 win over the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors. The Stars now stand at 8-2-0 on the season and an unblemished 6-0-0 in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) action.
Sophomore Elizabeth Ficek (Bloomington, Ill.) left little doubt in the matchup, notching what proved to be the game-winner in just the second minute of play. The score was Ficek’s team-leading seventh goal of the season and her third game-winner of the year.
The score remained 1-0 into the 51st minute when Katie Petty (Crystal Lake, Ill.) gave Dominican a two-goal lead, converting on a penalty kick. Just four minutes later, sophomore Adrienne Ryba (Roselle, Ill.) added to the Stars’ lead, tallying her sixth goal of the season.
Kelly Gerwitz (Florissant, Mo.) added her sixth goal of the season in the 74th minute of play before freshman Ashley Meyer (Evanston, Ill.) added to the Stars’ lead. In 89th minute, Michelle Reynoso (Burbank, Ill.) became the sixth player to score for the Stars in the match.
Dominican once again dominated the pace of play, peppering the Warriors’ goal with 41 shots while surrendering just seven shots from its NAC counterpart. The Stars also held a 15-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior goalkeeper Megan Schulz (Redford, Mich.) picked up her fifth shutout of the season, logging four saves on the evening. Schulz 0.72 goals against average with an 8-2-0 record in goal.
Dominican will return to the pitch on Saturday, hosting the Edgewood College Eagles for a NAC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. as the second game of a doubleheader with the Stars’ and Eagles’ men’s programs playing in game one.
