The Dominican University men’s basketball team snapped a six-game losing skid on Saturday afternoon, upending the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors 75-63 in Milwaukee, Wis.
The Stars were in control from the outset, taking a 3-2 lead on a long-range jumper from senior
Jovan Turley (Grand Rapids, Mich.) on Dominican’s first possession and never looked back.
Leading 44-33 at the break, the Stars withstood an 8-0 Warriors’ run mid-way through the second period that pulled the home team to within 51-49, answering with back-to-back buckets from
Darrius Nelson (Michigan City, Ind.) and
Marquis Turley (Grand Rapids, Mich.).
The Warriors narrowed the gap to two again at 57-55 with just over five to play, before back-to-back three’s by Marquis Turley and
Milos Mandic (Munster, Ind.) opened an eight point lead again for the Stars. Dominican then sealed the game at the foul line, converting on 9-of-11 attempts from the charity stripe in the final 1:42 of play.
Mandic finished the night with a game-high 15 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field, including 3-for-5 from three-point range. The Turley brothers, Marquis and Jovan, added 14 and 13 points respectively for Dominican who improved to 7-10 on the year and 4-5 in the NAC.
The Stars will return to action on Wednesday as they travel down Division Street to take on neighborhood rival Concordia University Chicago in a conference matchup.
