Box Score Ashley Meyer (Evanston, Ill.) scored a pair of goals, one to give the Stars a 1-0 lead and one to level the score at 2-2, but the Dominican University Stars fell in double-overtime in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon to the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons.
After the two teams played a scoreless first half, Meyer put the Stars ahead with her 14
th goal of the season, dribbling through the Falcon defense before finding the back of the net for the unassisted score just seconds into the second half.
Five minutes later, the Falcons evened the score as Lauren Straehler found the back of the net for the 14
th time of the season. Straehler then gathered the ball after a failed clearance attempt by the Stars’ defense and beat Megan Schulz (Redford, Mich.) to give the Falcons a 2-1 advantage in the 54
th minute.
Looking to mount a comeback, Meyer scored her second goal of the game in the 82
nd minute to force overtime.
In the first overtime, both teams managed just one shot apiece, neither shot was on frame. The two teams continued play into the 109
th minute when with just over one minute to play, the Falcons Kelly Sippel netted the game-winner to knock off the Stars.
Schulz was spectacular in goal for the Stars, making nine saves to keep the Stars in the game.
The loss drops the Stars to 9-7-1 overall and 7-3-1 in NAC play. Dominican will close out the regular season on Wednesday, traveling to Rockford College to take on the Regents. The Stars will then open play in the NAC Women’s Soccer Tournament on Sunday, October 30.
