The Dominican University women’s tennis team set a new single season record with its ninth win, topping the Aurora University Spartans 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) play. The Stars’ nine wins is the most in the program since joining the NCAA Division III ranks in 2000, while the team’s eight conference victories is the most in program history.
Dominican took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, winning the two and three doubles flights. At two doubles, the
Rachel Taddy (Cary, Ill.) and
Jillian Metcalf (Oak Lawn, Ill.) improved to 8-3 overall and 7-3 in conference doubles action with an 8-5 win over Aurora’s Christy Savallano and Taylor LaVoy while the freshmen combo of
Jennifer LoRusso (Burbank, Ill.) and
Rosmary Orchanian (Portage, Mich.) picked up their seventh win in a row at number three doubles, 8-1.
In singles play, the Stars claimed victories and at the two, three, four, five and six singles flights including straight set victories by Taddy,
Monica Budzak (Chicago, Ill.) and
Marbeya Berner (New Lenox, Ill.) at two, five and six.
Dominican stands at 9-4 on the season and 8-3 in NAC play heading into the NAC Individual Tournament this weekend. Tournament play kicks off on Saturday, October 8 at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis., and concludes on Sunday.
