Lio Tovar (Cicero, Ill.) notched his sixth goal of the season in the 80
th minute to lift the Stars past the Benedictine University Eagles 2-1 on Wednesday night in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) men’s soccer action.
The Stars took an early 1-0 lead as
Logan Marvin netted his team-leading seventh goal of the season in 13
th minute.
The score remained in the Stars advantage into the second half until Alberto Mendez evened the score in 64
th minute on the Eagles lone shot on goal.
Tovar, a 2010 NSCAA All-America First Teamer, eventually put the Stars back on top, tallying his first game-winning goal of the season. The Cicero native ripped three shots on the evening, putting two on frame including his sixth goal of the season.
Dominican held an 8-3 advantage in shots and had seven corner kick opportunities.
The win was the Stars’ ninth in a row, improving the team’s record to 10-1-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the NAC. Dominican will travel to Sheboygan, Wis., on Saturday to take on the Lakeland College Muskies before returning home to host the Loras College Duhawks, ranked seventh nationally in this week’s NSCAA Top 25 poll.
