Extra Time Required As Stars Stay Unbeaten In NAC

Box Score For the second time in as many games, the Dominican University Stars were taken to its limits in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) play, this time needing extra time to defeat the Lakeland College Muskies 1-0.  Just three days after the Stars edged the Benedictine University Eagles 2-1, the win preserved a 58-match unbeaten streak for the Stars in NAC play and 69-match unbeaten streak in conference play including the Lake Michigan and Northern Illinois-Iowa conferences.

Unlike Wednesday’s thriller, the Stars dominated the stat sheet on Saturday afternoon, ripping 21 shots and putting 10 on frame before freshman Ryan Ybarra (Des Plaines, Ill.) found the back of the net.  Edwin Lagunas (Waukegan, Ill.) set up the goal as he beat his man up the left flank to get endline before slotting a pass to Ybarra who timed a shot under Alex Piekarski, the Muskies’ goalkeeper in the 97th minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dan Cimicata (St. Louis, Mo.) logged one save on the afternoon to pick up his fourth shutout of the season and lower his goals against average to 0.60 in nearly 1,060 minutes in goal.

The Stars return to the pitch on Sunday afternoon, hosting the Loras College Duhawks for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff on Dominican’s West Campus Field.
